Rather then rehashing things again, the review of this week is about Juddy and you can see what I said about it here. Stay here though for the updates from the week that will definitely include a tribunal sitting for the Juddster!

UPDATES

  • Tues 10:30pm: Merrett had his decision knocked down to a reprimand after going from Reckless to Negligent. Judd got 450 points, so 4 weeks. Ziebell was unsuccessful and now also will miss 4 weeks!

AFL Tribunal, 5pm,  Tuesday July 17:

Daniel Merrett, Brisbane Lions, has been charged with a Level Two charging offence against Nick Riewoldt, St Kilda, during the first quarter of the Round 16 match between the Brisbane Lions and St Kilda, played at the Gabba on Saturday July 14, 2012.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the St Kilda Football Club, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), medium impact (two points) and body contact (one point). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction.

Chris Judd, Carlton, has been charged with a Misconduct Offence against Leigh Adams, North Melbourne, during the second quarter of the Round 16 match between Carlton and North Melbourne, played at Etihad Stadium on Friday July 13, 2012.

In summary, the matter has been directly referred to the Tribunal for its determination and he cannot accept an early plea on this matter.

Jack Ziebell, North Melbourne, has been charged with a Level Three engaging in rough conduct offence against Aaron Joseph, Carlton, during the second quarter of the Round 16 match between North Melbourne and Carlton, played at Etihad Stadium on Friday July 13, 2012.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Carlton Football Club, the incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), high impact (three points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three offence, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match sanction. He has an existing bad record of three matches suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 30 per cent to 422.50 points and a four-match sanction. He also has 45 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 467.50 points and a four-match sanction.

Sam Wright, North Melbourne, has accepted a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record for engaging in rough conduct against Mitch Robinson, Carlton, during the third quarter of the Round 16 match between North Melbourne and Carlton, played at Etihad Stadium on Friday July 13, 2012.

Jake Carlisle, Essendon, has accepted a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record for engaging in rough conduct against Paul Stewart, Port Adelaide, during the first quarter of the Round 16 match between Essendon and Port Adelaide, played at AAMI Stadium on Saturday July 14, 2012.

Danny Stanley, Gold Coast Suns, has accepted a one-match sanction for engaging in rough conduct against Jack Riewoldt, Richmond, during the second quarter of the Round 16 match between the Gold Coast Suns and Richmond, played at Cazalys Stadium on Saturday July 14, 2012.

Daniel Rich, Brisbane Lions, has accepted a two-match sanction for engaging in rough conduct against Clinton Jones, St Kilda, during the first quarter of the Round 16 match between the Brisbane Lions and St Kilda, played at the Gabba on Saturday July 14, 2012.

Patrick McGinnity, West Coast, has accepted a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record for engaging in rough conduct against Ryan O’Keefe, Sydney Swans, during the first quarter of the Round 16 match between West Coast and the Sydney Swans, played at Patersons Stadium on Saunday July 15, 2012.

Charges Laid:

Jack Ziebell, North Melbourne, has been charged with a Level Three engaging in rough conduct offence against Aaron Joseph, Carlton, during the second quarter of the Round 16 match between North Melbourne and Carlton, played at Etihad Stadium on Friday July 13, 2012.

In summary, due to an existing poor record, his three-match sanction must remain at three matches, even with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Carlton Football Club, the incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), high impact (three points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three offence, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match sanction. He has an existing bad record of three matches suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 30 per cent to 422.50 points and a four-match sanction. He also has 45 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 467.50 points and a four-match sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 350.63 points and a three-match sanction.

Other incidents Assessed:

The match day report against the Geelong Cats’ Joel Corey for engaging in rough conduct against Collingwood’s Jarryd Blair from Saturday’s match was assessed. The panel said Blair had possession of the ball and was then tackled by Corey. While the tackle drove Blair into the ground, the panel said that Blair was able to brace for contact with the ground with his free arm and there was not significant high contact with the ground. No further action was taken.

Contact between Carlton’s Michael Jamison and North Melbourne’s Drew Petrie from the first quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. After viewing all available footage and receiving a medical report from the North Melbourne Football Club, it was the view of the panel that the force used in the contact was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. A 50-metre penalty was paid by the umpire at the time of the contact, but the panel determined that no further action was required.

Contact between Richmond’s Trent Cotchin and the Gold Coast Suns’ Josh Hall from the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Hall is seeking to mark the ball as Cotchin is coming in to spoil. Hall takes the mark and Cotchin makes high contact with an open hand, for which a 50-metre penalty is paid against him. It was the view of the panel that Cotchin had his eyes on the ball at all times and that the contact was a legitimate attempt to spoil the ball. No further action was taken.

Contact between the Gold Coast Suns’ Karmichael Hunt and Richmond’s Bachar Houli from the third quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Houli is preparing to kick the ball, while Hunt is approaching him from the opposite direction. Hunt prepares to bump Houli but misses making contact with his shoulder. After viewing all available footage and receiving a medical report from the Richmond Football Club, it was the view of the panel the contact was only minimal and there was no significant high contact to Houli. No further action was taken.

Contact between St Kilda’s Nick Riewoldt and the Brisbane Lions’ Jed Adcock from the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Riewoldt flings his arm back and makes contact with Adcock. After viewing all available footage and receiving a medical report from the Brisbane Lions’ Football Club, it was the view of the panel the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
