AFL Teams – Round 16, 2012 – Buddy Hammy Injury!

Buddy went into last weeks game in a no win situation of having a tight hammy the week before but still playing against the Giants who the Hawks were likely to beat easily no matter if he played or not. Well, history shows that he nicked his Hammy and now will miss 2+ games and the Hawks still went on to beat the Giants by a season high 162 points. So of course the Hawks are hearing it from the media that they pulled the wrong move and why risk Buddy? But enough of that. The Hawks will be looking to have Sewell (who was a late out for the Hawks) and Burgoyne return to the side. They are still without Guerra for 2 more weeks but how do they replace Buddy. So as a Hawks fan I see 3 possibilities

1. Just return the guys due back and play a slightly smaller forward line. They already were pretty tall with Bud, Gunston and the resting ruckman (either Roughy or Hale).
2. Bring in a ruck and play Hale/Roughy more forward. Bailey is due back in the next week or so but is unlikely to go straight into the seniors. Broc McCauley returned to the VFL last week so could be a chance to return or Luke Lowden has been close in recent weeks and could get his debut this week
3. (and this is less likely) Shoenmakers could get a run forward and they bring in a backman (most likely Gilham) to play down back. This would be an interesting move but I still think that they want Shoey as a back.

On to other possible changes:

• Marc Murphy is a chance to return for the Blues but only if he gets through training this week. You would think after the Buddy incident that teams will be a little gun shy with these type of injuries.
• Scott Pendlebury is a big chance for this week after being held over an extra 2 weeks. Sharrod Wellingham starts his 3 week suspension and Marley Williams has been ruled out for the rest of the year. Chris Tarrent may return as might Nathan Brown.
• Kurt Tippett is likely to miss for the Crows dues to concussion issues.
• Michael Hurley is going to miss 3 with a Hammy injury. Cameri is out for another week with Suspension. Scott Gumbleton could be the guy that gets another chance.
• Cats are likely to get back Steve Johnson after being a late out for the Cats.
• Scott Thompson should return this week for the Roos.
• Saints will lose Jack Stevens after his club imposed suspension.
• Eagles lose Shuey and Lynch to suspension and Waters is missing for a month with injury. Adam Selwood is almost certain to return after a big game in the WAFL.
• Tom Williams (the play selected one pick later then Buddy Franklin in the draft) could return to face the Hawks this week for the Bulldogs. Adam Cooney is also a good chance to return this week.

• Thur 5:30pm: Rumors spreading that Patrick Ryder is out possibly as long as six weeks
• Thur 5:31pm: Some rookie/LTI movements. Max Bailey has been added back to the main list and Derick Wanganeen has gone back to the rookie list without playing a senior game.
• Thur 5:32pm: Geelong have replaced Daniel Menzel (who is now on the Long Term Injury list) with Jackson Sheringham.
• Thur 5:33pm: Melbourne have upgrade Tom Couch to the senior list as their midseason rookie upgrade. He will play this week.
• Thur 5:34pm: Cats have used their midseason upgrade to upgrade rookie Josh Walker to the senior list.
• Thur 5:35pm: Suns have put Seb Tape on the LTI and upgraded Josh Hall.
• Thur 5:37pm: Saints have upgrade Sam Dunell to the senior list as their mid-season upgrade.
• Thur 5:40pm: Mark Baguley was upgraded to the Bombers senior list yesterday.
• Thur 6pm: Pre-team announcement preview tweet is in from AFL’s main media man, Patrick Keane. Good word is 34 changes in the Fri/Sat games and already 14 outs for the Sunday game. Another big week at selection. Stay tuned for full teams.
• Thur 6:25pm: Teams are in!
• Fri 5pm: Sunday Teams are in.
• Fri 7:45pm: Zach Tuohy was replaced by Kane Lucas after the start of the warmups. Andrew Collins who was going to be the sub came onto the field and Lucas had to be the sub. The Roos have made Campbell their sub.
