AFL Match Review Panel – Round 13, 2012 – Black Out?

Match Review Panel Findings

AFL Match Review Panel – Round 13, 2012 – Black Out?

Okay, so the headline is a little fake as I didn’t get the post out this morning before the Match Review Panel findings were released and hence I know that Black isn’t out. But he was close! He had one of the pest taggers on his tail for the game and it got too him. He swung his elbow back and caught Picken in the nose and left him bloodied. It could have brought the the impact from the low he got to medium that would have seen him miss a week. In the weekly review of the MRP findings, head of that body, Mark Fraser said that the blood wasn’t taken into account as the medical report came back fairly clean. So Simon can take a slap on the wrist and the virtual 1 week suspended sentence. With his good record, its hard to see those points effecting him.

UPDATES

  • No Match day reports on the weekend
  • Charges for the round 13 are in.
  • The Verdict, the MRP finding review has been added.

Other incidents Assessed:

Contact between the Sydney Swans’ Ben McGlynn and umpire Dean Margetts from the conclusion of Friday’s match was assessed. McGlynn places his hands on the umpire briefly but the umpire did not pay a free kick for the contact and did not report the contact occurring, as part of his review of the game. It was the view of the panel the contact made by McGlynn did not interfere with the umpire performing his duties. The assessment of the panel was that there was minimal to negligible contact and the action was not in any way demonstrative or threatening towards the umpire. No further action was taken.

Contact between the Western Bulldogs’ Matthew Boyd and the Brisbane Lions’ Jack Redden from the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The ball is handpassed towards Redden, who is met with a bump by Boyd before he takes possession of the ball. Contact was made to Redden’s chest area with no forceful high contact made. It was the view of the panel that contact was made within five metres of the ball and that Redden should reasonably have been expecting contact. No further action was taken.

Contact between the Western Bulldog’s Ayce Cordy and the Brisbane Lions’ Pearce Hanley from the third quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Hanley is preparing to mark the ball and is bumped by Cordy. A free kick was paid to the Brisbane player and it was the view of the panel the force used what below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

Contact between Collingwood’s Chris Dawes and West Coast’s Mitch Brown from the third quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The ball was kicked to the Collingwood half-forward line where Dawes and Brown contest the ball. Dawes swings his right arm to the ball in a bid to spoil Brown’s marking attempt and makes high contact. It was the view of the panel that Dawes’ action was a realistic attempt to spoil the ball and the high contact that occurred was accidental. No further action was taken.

Contact between Fremantle’s Adam McPhee and Essendon’s Leroy Jetta from the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. It was the view of the panel the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
