AFL Teams for Round 5, 2012 – Part 2

ANZAC days match between the Pies and Dons was a cracker and we can hardly expect another game as good as that one all season let alone this week! The game considered next best game of the week is the battle in Tassie between the Hawks and Sydney. Sydney look forward to welcoming back brownlow medalist, Adam Goodes, after he severed  his one match suspension. It looks certain that number one ruckman, Shane Mumford, will miss after it was released that he suffered an infection from a pain killer injection that he had to get over a back injury. They also lose Gary Rohan after his terrible injury in the game verse North that saw Lindsey Thomas charged at the MRP only to successfully get off at the tribunal. Nick Smith and Lewis Roberts-Thomson look likely to return from injury/illness to be in consideration for the Swans

But the selection news isn’t just from the Sydney side of that game. The two and two Hawks will be likely to play there inspirational skipper, Luke Hodge, in a return from a calf injury. It is possible that he could return via the VFL or possibly with either the Green or Red subs vest. Grant Birchall was also a late withdrawal from the team to play the Eagles (well, late as you can be withdrawln when you don’t actually fly to Perth in the first place).  Issac Smith is another to miss a couple of weeks that will be tested this week and could be back to add some extra run to the team. Another couple of guys have been returning via the VFL as well with Paul Puopolo playing on the weekend for the first time and Stephen Gilham playing his second match back. I would image Poppy would be pushing for a spot but Gilham will probably be given an extra week or two.

In other selection news:

• Changes will be forced at the Crows with Bernie Vince to miss with a broken Hand.  Jared Petrenko and Ian Callinan look likely to over come knocks and play on the weekend. Chris Knights and Jarryd Lyons are two that have had solid SANFL form and could push for selection this week
• Blues are another team that have been hit by the injury bug with Andrew Carrazzo, Jeremy Laidler and Chris Yarran all likely to miss. Andrew “Tex” Walker,  Dennis Armfield,  David Ellard, Andy Collins and Robert Warrnock are all in the running to return.
• Freo coach, Ross Lyon, is confident that Nat Fyfe will play this week (but I thought he was confident last week seeings as he picked him on Thursday). Mr 211 (Aaron Sandilands) is in doubt with a calf complaint (maybe at his size it should be a cow complaint ). Kepler Bradley,  Nick Lower, Alex Silvagni and Dylan Roberton are all a chance to return to the side.
• Cats will get back Matty Scarlett from his round 1 suspension. Orren Stephenson had a good game in the VFL for the Cats and will be considered as well.
• Gold Coast will lose brownlow favorite, Gary Ablett Jnr, for 2-3 weeks with his knee injury and Jarrod Harbrow with an elbow injury.  Maverick Weller and Joel Wilkinson along with highly fancied big man, Charlie Dixon could all be a chance to get a spot in the Suns team.
• GWS is likely to see the return of Steve Coniglio
• Melbourne could lose Mitch Clark after his fall on the weekend but could see the return of Colin Sylvia after a club imposed suspension. Jack Grimes returns from suspension. Sam Blease, Ricky Petterd and Tom Couch could all be in the mix for the struggling Dees.
• The Power lose Robbie Gray but could see the return of young ruckman, Jarrad Redden.
• Saints lose Kosi to suspension. Beau Wilkes, Farren Ray, Jason Gram and Brett Peake could be chances to play this week.
• Bulldogs (and many SuperCoach/DreamTeam Coaches) will be happy to see the return of Brian Lake after a week off suspended. Lukas Markovic could return from injury to solidify the doggies defense.

UPDATE:

• No Updates yet except to say after being postponed for reasons beyond our control, the Coaches Box Podcast will be recording live tonight at 10:30pm. If you have an interest in DreamTeam and SuperCoach, its a good thing to listen too!
• Thur 2:20pm: Sandilands ruled out but Fyfe and Griffen ruled in according to FoxSports reporter Neroli Meadows.
• Thur 2:42pm: Two Rookie list upgrades today. Lee Spur has been upgraded and Josh Mellington has been moved to the Long Term Injury list (LTI) for Fremantle. Jarrod Harbrow has been put on the LTI and Kyal Horsley has been promoted for the Suns. Also, Robbie Gray put on the LTI for the Power but no rookie upgrades at this time.
• Thur 4:50pm: Further to Mumford being out this week, he will be out for 3-4 weeks after he had minor back surgery to remove the infection.
• Thur 5:42pm: Word is that Aaron Young will make his debut for Port this week.
• Thur 6:10pm: About 20mins from full teams. Patrick Keane has tweeted that there will be 28 changes for Friday and Saturday games and 6 definite outs for the Sunday games.
• Thur 6:20pm: Suns have jumped the gun slightly!
• Thur 6:28pm: Full teams are in!
• Fri 10:35am: Word is that Michael Rischitelli is on crutches and could miss sometime for the Suns. Looks like David Swallow will be asked to carry a bit of the load!
• Fri 11:05am: Scratch the last comment as it seems that Swallow is in doubt for the North game this week!
• Fri 4:50pm: Sunday Squads have been trimmed to 22. Enjoy!
• Fri 4:55pm: GWS Giants have reported that Chad Cornes is a late out for them. He will be replaced in the line up by Joshua “Don’t Call me” Bruce.
• Fri 8pm: No late changes for the Friday night game. Lachie Neale the sub for the Home side and Kane Lucas the sub for the vistors.
• Sun 12:20pm: Hawks have a late out. Grant Birchall is being replaced by Broc McCauley. Sub for the Hawks is Paul Puopolo and the Sub for the Swans is Nick Smith
• Sun 3:10pm:  Eric Mackenzie  out for the Eagles, replaced by Mitchell Brown. Sub for Eagles Adam Selwood and Richmond sub is Matt White
