AFL Teams – Round 4, 2012 – Nat the Knife? No Goodes!

AFL Teams for Round 4, 2012

This article each week tends to touch on Fantasy Footy relevant players, normally in passing but this week the big players to talk about are fantasy relevant, BIG TIME! Nat Fyfe popped out his shoulder in Freos big win against the Lions and was subbed out with a dislocated shoulder before half time and scoring 22pts in DreamTeam. The media based doctors were suggesting that would be the last we would see of him. Even though Nat played through much of last year with a loose shoulder, that this was a more serious issue and that this time it would end his season and see him go for a shoulder reconstruction. But amazingly Fyfe has trained and baring a specialist thoughts on the matter, it seems that Fyfe is set to play this week and possilbly the rest of the season. So DreamTeam/SuperCoach coaches have the tough choice of keep him/trade him! Personally myself, I will be trading him as I see him being rested against the minnows to protect his shoulder. In other Freo news it looks like Ross Lyons new favorite, Lache Neale has made the trip to Melbourne and could possibly replace Josh Mellington who injured his Hammy although they have serial pest, Hayden Ballantyne to return from suspension also.

The other fantasy relevant fantasy news came at the tribunal with Adam Goodes being suspended for a week and will miss their game this week. They have North coming off a big win against the Cats so this could be a huge loss for the Swans. Mike Pyke, Jarred Moore and Tommy Walsh are reported to have good games for the Swans reservers and will come into consideration to replace Goodes. Over at the Bulldogs, they are going to have to go into their battle of the unbeaten with Melbourne without All-Australian backman, Brian Lake after he was suspended for a week. Not a lot in the VFL for them to bring in from a defensive front so they may bring in an offensive player like Justin Sherman or even Matthew Panos and switch one of there other talls back.

In other selection news:

  • Darren Glass looks set to return from injury/rest to play the Hawks although Priddis and Rossa could miss another week. Brad Daizell will need to be replaced due to a knee injury so Butler, Swift and Brennon could get a look in.
  • Matthew Lobbe might play on the weekend after being out with injury a lot of the preseason but is most likely to return via the SANFL. John Butcher will be tested and could return. Ex-Hawk premiership player, Brent Renouf, returned via SANFL last week but is likely to have another at that level before pushing for selection.
  • Luke Hodge faces a fitness test to see if he returns. He has missed almost a month of footy and wouldn’t be surprised if he makes his way back via the Box Hill Hawks. Broc McCauley should return to help the Hawks take on Cox and Nic Nat. Bruest will miss after his big knock. Will be interesting to see if Birchall plays after being subbed off with a thigh/knee cork on the weekend. Issac Smith could return as well if he is over his back related hammy. Poppy likely to return via VFL.
  • With Luke Ball and Ben Reid likely to be out for extended periods (Ball the rest of the season), Collingwood are looking thin especially down back. Alan Didak maybe called on earlier then expect. Buckley may turn to Buckley (of the Simon kind) and Ben Johnson how has had three weeks in the VFL.
  • Looks like a swap of Leuenberger, who will miss at least 8 weeks after being put on the long term injury list, for Ben “The Peoples Beard” Hudson for the Lions.
Thats enough for now. Who do you think will be back for your side. Remember to keep checking the Updates over the course of the weekend to get the latest selection information.

  • No updates yet, but don’t forget to checkout the Coaches Box AFL DreamTeam and SuperCoach podcast for the week where my co-host, M0nty of Fanfooty, and myself discussed the issues of the week. Who to buy, who to keep and who to get rid of, with especial focus on how to handle the Fyfe problem!
  • Thurs 10:50am: Lions who had previously put Leuenberger on the long term injury list, have upgraded Rookie Jack Crisp to the senior list to Senior list to replace him. Crisp is described as “Jack Crisp is a genuine utility who can play roles up forward, down back and in the middle.”
  • Thurs 10:55am: Essendon who previously had put Brent Prismall on the LTI have take the opportunity upgrade Cory Dell’Olio. He is Described as “He is strong, quick and has good goal-sense.”
  • Thurs 11:10am: Team news is coming thick and fast with the news from the Hawks that WA recruit, Bradley Hill, will make his debut this week verus the West Coast Eagles! We know that Breust will miss with concussion but does this mean no Hodge or no Birchall or something else? Note to the media, its Bradley not Brad!
  • Thurs 12:15pm: Geelong just announced that they have upgraded Jesse Stringer from the rookie list in place of Nathan Vardy who has just been put on the long term injury list. Expect him to be named tonight!
  • Thurs 2:20pm: Word is that Nat “I need to go Under the Knife” Fyfe will probably play this week against the Saints but will need to go under the Sergeons knife “in the future”. Hard to tell if that is the near or long term future.
  • Thurs 4pm: More bad news for Collingwood with Dale Thomas and Heath Shaw ruled out for the next two weeks! Shaw going to hurt DreamTeams!
  • Thurs 4:51pm: Hawks have just announced that they have placed Max Bailey on the Long Term Injury list. No mention of an upgrade.
  • Thurs 5pmMark Austin been upgraded for the Dogs with Tom William moving to the Long Term Injury list.
  • Thurs 5:35pm: Being reported that Sam Shaw will replace Andy Otten for the Crows. Not sure the validity of it.
  • Thurs 5:47pm: Brisbane Lions twitter account claiming “Massive news” at selection this week! Could it just be Jack Crisp or is there bigger news?
  • Thurs 6:05pm: AFL Media Manager, Patrick Keane just announced that there will be 29 changes among the Friday/Saturday games and already 6 players out of the Sunday games!
  • Thurs 6:15pm: Saints team has leaked in a team Video. Been hidden now. See it here.
  • Thurs 6:19pm: Reports that Kelly out for the Cats and Armfield out for the Blues!
  • Thurs 6:35pm: Full teams in!
  • Fri 11:35pm: First bit of team news for the day is from the Tigers. Shane Edwards has been removed from the 25 man squad and has been replaced by Jeromey Webberley
  • Fri 3:35pm: Rumor started on SEN apparently via Twitter is that Grant Brichall didn’t board the plane to Perth. Yet to be confirmed although it wouldn’t surprise me as it was first put forward in this very post that he would be in great doubt!
  • Fri 4:40pm: More bad news for DreamTeamers/SuperCoaches. Shane Mumford is out of the Sydney squad with a back complaint and Jarred Moore is into the squad to replace him. With Redden already out, could make things very interesting if Orren Stephenson for some reason doesn’t play for the Cats!
  • Fri 5pm: FMDT! Stephenson named an emergency for the Cats!
  • Fri 5:15pm: Sunday teams are in. Waiting on news from Hawks training in Perth on Birchall. Been carnage in DreamTeam  and SuperCoach.
  • Fri 6:45pm: Team sheets are in for the Friday night game and Nat Fyfe is a late out! Jack Anthony replaces him in the line up. Jamie Cripps the sub for the Saints and first gamer, Lachie Neale, is the sub for the Dockers
  • Fri 6:55pm: Hawks assistant, Luke Beveridge, has confirmed Grant Birchall hasn’t traveled with the team. No mention of who will come in for him or which of the emergencies have traveled to Perth.
  • Sat 12:35pm: Bombers have a late change. Courtenay Dempsey is out and Ricky Dyson in to replace him. Brock McLean is the sub for the Blues and Cory Dell’Olio, playing his first game, will be the Sub for the Bombers
  • Sat 6:40pm: As reported earlier, Grant Birchall is out of the Hawks line-up and now we know that Cameron Bruce is his replacement. The subs are Patrick McGinnity for the Eagles and first gamer, Bradley Hill for the Hawks
  • Sun 12:30pm: Sub for Cats is Jesse Stringer and for the Tigers its Matt White
