AFL Teams – Round 2, 2012

Round 1 out of the way and Round 2, as it often happens, its Easter weekend. Easter in religion is all about Resurrection and new life. So lets take that into the AFL and ask which team will rise from the dead. Melbourne were arguably the biggest loses of round 1 not putting a good performance. They were ran over by an impressive Lions side. Their coach, Mark Neeld, has had a tough week but on Saturday pointed out there would be changes to the side. The one most are looking for (in Fantasy circles anyway) is Tom Couch to make his debut. Another you would think would see Matthew Bate no start as the sub this week!

Geelong are hardly dead having lost a close game to the Dockers out west. They need to find a replacement for Matty Scarlett after he was found guilty of hitting Hayden Ballantyne in the match and will miss three weeks. Tom Gillies would be an obvious replacement for Scarlett but the Geelong Cats Newsletter Advertiser reported that he may miss with an ankle injury. Mitch Brown may get his chance to impress instead. They play the (Mighty) Hawks who came through Friday nights game with the Pies without any new injury concerns. They look unlikely to regain skipper Luke Hodge, although he mouths that he may play, but could get back long term injured forward Jarryd Roughead, on the rise midfielder, Liam Shiels and small utility Paul Poupolo.

Collingwood have a fairly large injury list going into round 1 but may regain their captain, Nick Maxwell along with Nathan Brown and Alan Didak, although the latter two may need to return via the VFL. Chris Tarrant played VFL last week, so could also be in the mix. In other possible changes:

• Blues could regain Michael Jamison and Nick Duigan from injury after they played VFL on the weekend
• Freo lost serial pest, Hayden Ballantyne. Dylan Roberton and Jay van Berlo are possible inclusions for them
• Giants lose James McDonald to suspension but could welcome Luke Power and Dean Brogan into the side for their first games for their new club
• After their impressive first up win vs the Saints, Port may see the return of Robbie Gray and Jackson Trengove to the line up. They are both considered 50/50
• It won’t please many Fantasy coaches to see that its possible Brandon Ellis maybe sent to the VFL to get up to speed of the game for the tigers.
• Swans come up against man mountain, Aaron Sandilands (aka 211), and may look to Mark Seaby to give Shane Mumford a hand.
• Bulldogs look to regain star midfielder, Ryan Griffen, this week have a round 1 smashing at the hands of the eagles.

UPDATE:

• Wed 1:40pm: The Age is reporting impressive young Bulldog, Clay Smith, could be in doubt with an ankle injury.
• Wed 4:25pm: Further to last report, latest report is that Clay Smith trained fully today and should play this week.

• Thur midday: Looks like Swan Luke Park is likely to play this week, just two weeks after having his jaw fractured by Giant James McDonald
• Thur 12:25pm: If there was any doubt that Melbourne’s James Magner would play this week, this Tweet from him probably suggests he is playing.
• Thur 12:30pm: Just watching the latest Hawks TV episode, and Footy Manager, Mark Evans confirmed that Paul Poupolo (aka Poppy) is unlikely to play this week
• Thur 3:20pm: Jackson Trengove of the Port will return this weekend to strength the Powers defense.
• Thur 6:06pm: We are about 20 mins away from the teams being named. Who are you expecting?
• Thur 6:25pm: Teams are in, as are subs for the Thursday game.
• Fri 12:15pm: Luke Delaney has been brought in to the North Melbourne squad to play GWS Giant to replace Robbie Tarrant.
• Fri 5pm: Final teams are out for the Sunday games. Monday game final teams will be out sometime tomorrow afternoon
• Fri 5:05pm: Change in the squads for the Cats. Josh Hunt out and Simon Hogan into the squad. You would have to think that he is likely to be an emergency.
• Sat 11:40am: SEN reports that Mark Seaby isn’t playing in the Swans Reserves suggesting their could be a late out for the Swans.
• Sat 12:40pm: Essendon sub will be Sam Lonergan and Port have made Cameron O’Shea their sub
