AFL Teams for Round 17, 2011

The big injury news of the week was with Gary Ablett Jnr and his knee. A huge number of Fantasy coaches where hit by his subbing out in there games vs Sydney on the weekend. Coming off a huge game the week before, he was the lock in captain of choice and so teams had a double whammy. Those of us (me included) were happy to see the poor score (and then be told we were just jealous, which most of us are). But the news through the week is that he will make a miraculous return to the team for this weeks game. There must be a level of nerves about this and I would imagine that most Fantasy Coaches would be looking else where for captain choices.

His old team will be in Queensland to face the Lions and will be happy to have the return of Joel Selwood to the line-up. They will be missing Brad Ottens after a suspension which could open the door for either Tom Hawkins or Dawson Simpson. There oppenents, the Lions, will be hoping to get Mitch Clarke and/or Brent Staker back in the side.

At the Pies, there are mixed reports on whether or not Didak is ready to return to the line-up. They have said that Thomas is fine, but wouldn’t be surprised if they gave him a rest with them flying at the top of the ladder. There opponents, the Blues are facing some selection head aches with Jarrad  Waite and Andrew Carrazzo ruled out. Ed Curnow and Dennis Armfield with come under consideration for a return to the side, with some suggesting that first year player Matthew Watson may be brought in to play on inform forward, Travis Cloke.

• Thursday 2pm: Adelaide coach Neil Craig is only expecting to make the two changes to cover Douglas & Callinan injuries. Is not expecting Chris Knights to be one of the guys to replace them.
• Thursday 2:25pm: Forgot to mention that Boomer Harvey is in doubt (may already be ruled out) with Thumb injury. Big loss considering their big losses lately!
• Thursday 3pm: Brad Scott has confirmed that Lindsay Thomas has been dropped for this week.
• Thursday 3:05pm: Added to the above, it seems that Harvey will be named but may still miss.
• Thursday 5pm: Teams are in! As mentioned earlier, Harvey and Ablett both named.
• Friday: Sunday teams are in. Also, after the events of today with Heath Shaw being suspended for 8 matches, the AFL have announced that the Pies will not announce who will replace him and that it will come out of the emergencies already named.
• Saturday 1:50pm: John McCarthy is the replacement for Heath Shaw in the Pies match. Ablett to line-up, as expected, for the Suns.
