We are a third of the 2011 Season down and there have been some interesting movement of teams both up and down the ladder then what was expected at the start of the season. I mean who saw the rise of Essendon and West Coast and who saw the drop of St Kilda and the Bulldogs. But what is starting to become an interesting story, and more interesting in this context of team selection, is the amount of injuries that are mounting and especially at a couple of clubs. So the club worst hit by injury is Fremantle. To me they have done an amazing job of playing good football even though they have been badly hit by injury. Its being reported they could be down to as few as 25 players to choose from to make up the teams 22 and 3 emergencies. They are hopeful in getting back the most annoying player, and skilled small forward, Hayden Ballantyne. Also on the near term radar is good news for fantasy coaches (DreamTeam/SuperCoach) in the prospect of preseason rookie star, Tendai Mzungu, getting his first game.
There is suggestions that the knee injury to Darren Jolly at Collingwood is worst then expected. The article linked is suggesting that he may not return until after the round 13 bye. Some are reporting that Nick Maxwell will be back this week along with Ben Johnson. Bombers also face team changes with Jobe Watson likely to miss 3 weeks (possibly only 2 games as they have the bye next week) due to a hammy issue. They also will miss Heath Hocking after he was rubbed out for 3 weeks by the MRP. They could see the return to the side of serial fan whipping boy, Brent Stanton.
I have tried to put off talking about my Hawks, but it seems that there is a lot of interest in what we do with selection due to the two major injuries, Stephen Gilham and David Hale. The Hawks have brought in a number of young players in recent weeks (Puopolo, Issac Smith and last week Luke “Don’t Bring me down” Breust) and fantasy coaches could be interested to see if they hold their spot with players like Rioli looking to come back from injury. But all eyes are on who will replace Gilham and Hale. Gilham seems certain to be replaced by Ryan Schoenmakers who has come back from injury himself. Hale is a trickier one. Some are thinking that Roughead could hold up the ruck, but I am thinking that Renouf could be back from injury although there seems to be some talk that he might miss again. Max Bailey is a fan favorite and he has played most of the year in the VFL without injury (touch wood). The other young ruckman coming through is Luke Lowden who has impressed many. I have read some putting up Paul Johnson’s name, but as he has only played one game at VFL level returning from injury, so I doubt he will play (but have been wrong before).

- Thursday 11:50pm: Richmond’s best key defender, Kelvin Moore, has been placed on the Long Term Injury list (LTI)
- Thursday midday: Expect the Eagles to name Daniel Kerr and Andrew Embly but they both will face tests according to the Western Australian.
- Thursday 12:25pm: Bulldogs look likely to miss Dylan Addison after hurting his left ankle at training.
- Thursday 1pm: Jonathan Brown has been given the all clear to play this week.
- Thursday 1:20pm: Crows tweeting that Neil Craig has said there will be no changes this week. Haven’t I heard that before?
- Thursday 1:25pm: In addition to previous update, Crows have also upgraded Aidan Riley from the rookie list to be an emergency.
- Thursday 1:30pm: HeraldSun are reporting that Barry Hall, Shaun Higgins and Tom Williams will come back into the side. Brian Lake not being totally ruled out.

- Friday 10:30pm: Dylan Addison has come out of the Bulldogs squad replaced by Christian Howard.
- Friday 11:13pm: Seems to be a slight suggestion from Katrina Gill that Alipate Carlile might miss out of the named side for Port and Possibly Chad might come in.
- Friday 12:10pm: AFL Communications Manager, Patrick Keane reports on twitter that Richmond have lost Brad Miller to a Virus and included Jayden Post in the 22 and Ben Nason added to the Emergency list.
