The panel said Stewart was going for a mark as Anthony jumped towards him with the intention to spoil the ball. Anthony had his arm outstretched in a spoiling motion but when he realises the mark has been spilled by Stewart, he braces himself for contact. His actions were not deemed to be a reportable offence and no further action was taken.
Contact between Hawthorn’s Lance Franklin and the Geelong Cats’ Tom Lonergan from the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The panel said that Franklin was chasing Lonergan, who was preparing to kick the ball. As Lonergan disposed of the ball, Franklin attempted to tackle the Geelong player and the initial contact was made to the shoulder region. Franklin’s hand was open at all times in the tackling motion and his action was not seen as a striking motion. No further action was taken.
Contact between the Geelong Cats’ Joel Selwood and Hawthorn’s Xavier Ellis from the third quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Due to the inconclusive nature of the vision available, along with the available medical evidence, it could not be determined if a reportable offence had occurred. No further action was taken.
Contact between Hawthorn’s Michael Osborne and the Geelong Cats’ Joel Selwood from the third quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Contact between West Coast’s Andrew Embley and the Adelaide Crows’ Richard Douglas from the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The West Coast player had his hand open at all times and the action was not seen as a striking action. No further action was taken.
Contact between the Adelaide Crows’ Graham Johncock and West Coast’s Josh Kennedy from the fourth quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The panel said Kennedy was seeking to take possession of the ball when he was tackled by the Adelaide Crows’ Ben Rutten from behind. Johncock made contact momentarily after Rutten tackled the West Coast player. Johncock’s contact that he made to Kennedy was deemed by the panel to be caused by circumstances outside his control that he could not reasonably foresee, in that the tackle by the other Adelaide player changed the position of the West Coast opponent. No further action was taken.
Contact between Carlton’s Marc Murphy and the Western Bulldogs’ Liam Picken from the third quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. Picken was leaving the ground when he changed direction and contact was made with Murphy. It was the view of the panel that Murphy had not initiated contact with a player who was being attended to by training staff, and no further action was taken.
